Rock Phosphate Minerals

Name and Composition - It is a rock containing P2O5 in the form of chlore-apatite, fluor-apatite, collophane Ca3 (F,CI) (PO4)3. Phosphrite having +30%, P2O5 is put under high grade category where as the phosphorite containing less than 30% P2O5 is put under low grade category.

Physical Properties - It occurs as granular and hard massive rock in the form of phosphatic stromatolites or nodules.

Mode of Occurrence - As phophatic stromatollites associated with dolomite / shale / quartzite / limestone and generally of sedimentary origin.

Uses - Chiefly used for manufacturing of single / triple super phosphate (phosphate fertilizers). It can also directly be used as fertilizer in acidic soils, also used in manufacture of chemicals, phosphoric acid etc.

Mineral based Industries – Fertilizer units for S.S.P and T.S.P., diammoniuam phosphate, dicalcium phosphate, phosphoric acid beneficiation plants.

Industrial Prospects – Beneficiation plant, fertilizer units (S.S.P., T.S.P.).
